Kampala — It will be an exclusive live appearance when Kenya's world music star, Eric Wainaina, makes his Ugandan debut this weekend. Under the theme "Fire was the Stone" Eric Wainaina and the Mapinduzi band will be performing at The Emin Pasha hotel on Sunday June 29 as part of the Zamani platform.

Organised by Uganda Music Week Limited, Zamani is a unique blend of contemporary live African music; visual art, food and comedy hosted every quarter in the Emin Pasha Hotel gardens.

"I am very excited to be coming to be part of Zamani and perform live African Music experience for the first time in Uganda." Eric Wainaina said a press statement. Born in August 1973, Eric Wainaina is a Kenyan Kora Award-winning singer-songwriter whose career was launched with his debut album, Sawa Sawa, in 2001. His music is a blend of Kenyan Benga rhythm and East African guitars, with some modern harmony. His notable songs include Kenya Only, a song that instantly made him Kenya's favourite modern musician. After the 1998 terrost bommbing in Nairobi, Kenya Only was adopted as the unofficial song of mourning, receiving extensive radio and TV airplay nation-wide. Nchi ya Kitu Kidogo and Twende, Twende are also some of his popular songs. The event will bring to life the idea of private concert (only the stage action is captured by the cameras) and is being sponsored by The Emin Pasha Hotel, Club beer and Air Uganda, a designated national airline carrier for Uganda.
