The people of Ughievwen kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State have given a one week ultimatum to the management of Shell Petroleum and Development Company, SPDC to reinstate citizens of the kingdom that were recently sacked from the employment of the company.
President General of the Ughievwen Union, Mr. Bernard Jamaho, who was addressing a press conference at Otu -Jeremi, said the recent SPDC's sack order was directed on Deltans, particularly their natives.
He said "all our children working in SPDC were thrown out. We have just realised that we have never been considered for new employment in the immediate past neither does SPDC system have consideration for her operating communities.
"If SPDC takes this call for granted, she should be ready for a show down in Utorogu Gas Plant, Ughelli West and Utorogu Flow Station. If the answer to our demand is no, we shall not continue to pretend. Lean liberty is better than fat slavery.
"We demand that SPDC reinstate our people who were sacked within one week of this press conference failing which they will be held responsible for their actions and inactions. We are also asking SPDC to enter into negotiations with the Ughievwen Union within one week for the neglect of the Ughievwen people.
"We also demand that our children should be given priority in any subsequent employment in SPDC recruitments. SPDC is hereby informed that we shall not shirk our responsibilities to the Ughievwen people in a bid to ensuring good living for them," he emphasized.
Continuing Jamaho reiterated that "if SPDC has any regard for us at all, she should please reinstate our people to re-assure us we have a stake in the affairs of our God-given natural resources.
According to him, SPDC has operated in Ughievwen Kingdom for more than 48 years when two flow stations, the Ughelli West and Utorogu Flow Stations, adding "we are the host communities to Utorogu Gas Plant, Ughelli West, and Utorogu Flow Stations."
He noted that they have lived in peace with SPDC staff over the years, saying" we have never at any time protested. We have unconsciously and ignorantly live peacefully along with SPDC workers. We were not aware that the company hates us so much. We thought we were stakeholders as SPDC pretends to call us."

Jamaho who was flanked by Chief A.O. Dafiaghor, Secretary General, Chief T.O Apah, Chief Tony Oviri, Chief D.A. Okome, Chief M.E. Egbi and Chief J.U. Umukoro, advised SPDC not to come to them for any negotiation if their angry youths and women break loose due to her (SPDC) oppressive tactics.
