The newly declared winner of the House of Representatives election in the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency of Delta State, Mr. Charles Onyekweli took to his heels yesterday following a threat to arrest him in the premises of the National Assembly.

He had come to be sworn in as a member of the House following his victory at the Appeal Court in Benin which had ordered his replacement of the present occupant of seat, Mercy Almona-Isei as according to the verdict, Almona-Isei was not validly presented by their party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Following the ruling of the Appeal Court, Mr. Onyekweli secured a certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with which he hoped to be cleared as a member of the House and sworn in yesterday.

When he arrived at the office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Mr. Niyi Ajiboye, he was confronted by policemen who said they were under instruction to arrest him but before they could carry out the arrest, Mr. Onyekweli bolted out.
