The Zamfara State Government has approved N12 billion for the construction of an international cargo airport in Gusau.

Alhaji Tukur Jekada, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, made this known on Wednesday in Gusau.

He said the airport was necessitated by government's desire to export the abundant agro-allied commodities in the state.

"Zamfara being an agrarian state and a leading producer of cotton and other agro-allied commodities, government is committed to providing its farmers opportunities for export promotion," Jekada said.

This, he said, would generate more wealth for the people and stimulate economic growth.

Jekada said the government would complete the project within the life span of the Shinkafi administration.

He also said government had reintroduced cinema shows across the state as part of its public enlightenment programme.

Government, he said, had also reactivated and equipped seven mobile cinema vans for the implementation of its enlightenment programme.
