A group called West Africa Obama Group has been formed in Sierra Leone.
The group says it aims to create consciousness and enlighten people on the benefits Africa will derive under Obama's leadership in the US.
They describe Obama's speculated victory as a "revolution". " The US will still play a leadership role in the world, but this time round it is a leadership in which nation-state will brought onboard the 'Democratic train' through diplomacy and even democratic deviants will be brought on board through various forms of intervention rather than military subjugation" says Alpha Rashid Jalloh a spokesman for the group.
Jalloh says it is time for the US to adopt Africa as a partner rather than being regarded as a receiver of handouts.
The group believes that under Obama's leadership the tension that has fragmented the relationship between states will be reduced, and that Africa will have many economic benefits from the US, which will also cut down on the current spate of conflicts that have undermined democratization processes.
The group aims to network with organizations in neighbouring West African states to spread what it calls, "the Obama message". They have already maintained a hotline which is 232-76684043 "for those who want to be part of the inspiration"

I am one strong activist in the Obama campaign, living in Minnesota USA.I don't think this is the time to form such a group in Africa (Sierra Leone). This move,if spread to the US will have great impact on the Obama's campaign. The American politics is quite different from the so called African politics. There are set standards which need to be followed. So as soon as the white people start realising Blacks forming such groups, they will for sure refuse to vote for Obama. The whites are in majority in the US.If they start to see racism in the race,Obama is gonna loose.
I think people should wait for the last day before pronouncing such a group from Africa. The formation of the group has nothing to do with the electionairing process rather than limiting the chances for Obama.
Thanks.
This is the silliest thing to do, and this is one reason, why we are so backward. We do not care that we do not have food to eat, water to drink, roads to drive, planes to fly, health facilities, and we are dancing for Obama.Shame on us, and about time, we learnt to min our business. Why not for Ernet Group or Ans Sumana Group??
I think the best prople should do in Sierra Leone is to form groups that will force the Koroma government to help reduce poverty which is affecting our people greatly.Whosoever is the leader of the Obama group in Sierra Leone should convert the group into a pressure group to act on the present government of Sierra leone.
The Obama group should concern themselves with the ugly situation in the current political affairs in Sierra Leone. We dont want the white people to know that there is that kind of group in Africa. Form a pressure group for your own government to make sure that the violence being perpetrated against the opposition partys are stoped. WE never heard of any political violence during the few years of SLPP rule. This is really a shame. When would the APC mature in politic? If the president does not have the courage to stop all these violence and intimidation against the opposition, then, there is every reasons to believe that all these problems have his blessings. The International community should bow down their heads in shame. The are responsible for all these problems today.
I have colsely followed developments in the US presidential primaries and I think Obama will be a powerful and inspirational US and world leader. Let us not forget that he is contesting to be a president of America and not Africa. He has great ideas on how to deal with issues like race and inheritance, global and homeland security, US domestic health care, renewable energy for US, US Economic recession and poverty etc. I think he has mutual identity of black (father) and white (mother) and promoting the intrest of both. I will be delighted to see a man of such charisma and vission become president of such a great nation, but he is an American and let us give the Americans a change to decide their future for themselves. As President, Obama will be facing mountain challanges first in US domestic and foreign policies and then dealing with his handing over note from President Bush. The problems in Africa are bigger than any single individual. In Africa and more so in Sierra Leone we still have so much work on our domestic issues of curruption and mismanagement (more so in high places), violence and attitudes change, donor dependence, political operession (such as closing down oposition radio station and indescriminate sacking and marginalization of suspected opposition members from jobs), hunger and Poverty, poor health care, poor national electricity coverage, transportation crisis, poor roads and infrastructure, poor educational system, youth unemployment, bad employment conditions and lack of motivation, problems of shelter, poor water supply and sanitation conditions accross the country, high inflation rate etc. We should be constructively challanging our leaders on these issues and not wait for Obama. What are the leaders doing with out money? Driving big cars, throwing massive birthday and other parties, travelling like crazzy, building new and expensive houses, drinking all night in bars, multiplying the number of wifes and girlfriends, increasing savings and investments, etc, etc. The seeds of development are not sure to germinate in this type of environment. We need to get up and stand up on these issues. Obama is doing that for America and if by God's grace he is positive towards us as a world leader, thanks be to God and the Americans!
