Uganda: Legislators Want Otto Punished Over Bribery Claims

Kampala — MPS accused of receiving a sh170m bribe to pass the additional budget for the Commonwealth summit have asked the rules committee to punish Aruu county MP Odonga Otto for failing to produce evidence against them.

Kaddunabbi Lubega (NRM) yesterday told the committee chaired by Asuman Kiyingi (NRM) that the penalty would bar other MPs from taking advantage of Parliament's immunity to damage their colleagues' images. "The allegations against me are malicious lies intended to tarnish my image." "Otto has failed to produce evidence against me. Therefore, I request the committee to take punitive action against him," Kaddunabbi told the committee which concluded its investigations into Otto's allegations. In February, Otto alleged that Kaddunabbi (NRM), George William Wopuwa (NRM), Rose Akol (NRM) Florence Hashaka (NRM), William Okecho (Independent) and William Nsubuga (NRM) were bribed by the foreign affairs ministry.
