Uganda's top badminton player Edwin Ekiring has entered record books of Africa's finest by clinching top position on the continent, according to the newly released rankings.
Ekiring, who recently earned a deserved invitation by the World Badminton Federation (WBF) to take part in this year's Olympic, tops the African rankings with 13,840 points, 130 points ahead of second placed Nabil Lasmari of Algeria.
Zambia's Elly Mambwe - Ekiring's partner at IOC Solidarity center in Germany, is ranked third with 8,134 points followed by Christoffel Dednam of South Africa and Nigeria's Greg Okuonghae in fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Uganda's other star Wilson Tukire is seventh with 2,205 points on the elite top ten list of Africa's best. National badminton team coach Simon Mugabi who has tutored Ekiring since his childhood attributed the player's new milestone to discipline and hard work.
"Ekiring has always wanted to work hard and achieve the best. He is also much disciplined because he knows that discipline is the key to success. I'm not surprised that his commitmentnduct has finally paid off greatly," said Mugabi.
