Forum for Democratic Change President Kizza Besigye yesterday repeated earlier claims that his life is in danger with plans underway to re-arrest him.
Dr Besigye was first arrested in November 2005 shortly after he returned from self imposed exile in South Africa.
"Whenever I talk about the wrong things that the government has done, like I am doing now they plan to re-arrest me and kill me," Dr Besigye claimed. He did not elaborate.
He said there are several failures of the government like rampant corruption, a breakdown of infrastructure, increased poverty and a high human rights violation record that have put the ruling National Resistance Movement government in total disrepute.
Dr Besigye was yesterday addressing residents of Karama trading centre in Kabwooya Sub-county in Hoima District. Dr Besigye compared the NRM government to the Zanu-PF of Zimbabwe under President Robert Mugabe.
He described the Prosperity for All programme as a hoax, saying it cannot improve the welfare of ordinary Ugandans. He also took issue with the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which Uganda hosted, saying while it was promoted as an opportunity to improve the economic status of Ugandans, it has left majority of the population in more poverty and misery.

He attributed the persistent poverty that Ugandans are facing to poor and bad governance. Dr Besigye also praised Obote's government for constructing schools and hospitals but which he said have been mismanaged by the NRM.
