Lagos — How Well Have Our Representatives Fared?
The House of Representatives last Tuesday in Abuja, resumed for the second year of the legislative calendar of the current National Assembly. THISDAY, in its continuing assessment of key units of the present administration, takes a closer look at the contributions in plenary and at committee oversight functions of the lawmakers in the last one year. Below is the score card of their performances
Borno State
Ishiyaku Joshua Sharah (ANPP) Askira- Uba/Hawul
At plenary sessions, he always makes it a point of duty that he introduces another dimension or angle to debates. He contributes effectively to committee works.
Rating: Above average
Baba Gana Tijjani (ANPP) Bama/Ngala/Kalabhalge
This lawmaker not only makes attendance and contributions important aspects of his legislative business, he also takes seriously his committee oversight functions.
Rating: Average
Mukthar Betara Aliyu (ANPP) Biu/Bayo/Shani/ Kwaya/kusa
He is not too good at debates but a very good lawmaker at oversight functions.

Kala Adam/Mustapha (ANPP) Dikwa/Mafat/ Konduga
He is one of the Borno lawmakers who makes ANPP tick in the House. He does not hide under the party but defends all actions and positions taken by it.

Mohammed Ali Ndume (ANPP) Damboa/Gwoza/-Chibok
He is the leader of the opposition and indeed the rallying point for members from the zone.

Shettima Shehu (ANPP) Kaga/Gubio/Maigumeri
This lawmaker is very active. He is a team player who participates in debates and oversight functions.

Mohamed Tahir Munguno (ANP) Monguno/Marte/Nganzai
He is one of the strong members of the House, and has been active in debates and committee over sight activities.
Rating: Average
Modu Alhaji Musa (ANPP) Kukawa/Mobbat/ Abadana/Guzamalai
He is not too active outside the party.
Rating: Below average
Mustapha Baba Shehuri (ANPP) Maiduguri (Metropolitan)
The Maiduguri people couldn't have asked for more. He is a team player and takes committee work as an important aspect of the legislative business.

Abba Dawud Lawan (ANPP) Jere
A thorough-bred legislator. He effectively combines politics of the opposition and makes interaction with the leading party part of his legislative work.

Dahir Zubairu (ANPP) Kaura Namoda/Birnin - Magaji
He is a new member but not visible.
Rating: Below Average
Zamfara State
Bello Abubakar (ANPP) Shinkafi/Zumi
He is also a new member. He is still studying the workings of the House
Rating: Below Average
Mohammed Keta (ANPP) Gusau/Tsafe
He is equally new in the House. He has not been very active but plays a lot of team politics in the House

Abubakar Shehu Bunu (ANPP) Anka/Talata Mafara
He is hardworking and contributes to debates on the floor of the House.

Mohammed Bello M Mutawale (ANPP) Bakura/Maradua
He is always present in the plenary sessions and at committee works. He has been a very active player in the politics of the House and contributes effectively to debates.

Mohammed Sam Takoki (ANPP) Gummi/ Bukkuyum
Like all members of the House from Zamfara, he is a new member and still studying the workings of the House. But he works hard in the committees and at oversight functions

Abia State
Nnanna Uzor Kalu (PPA) Abia North/South
This lawmaker, who is serving his second term, crossed over to the Peoples Progressive Party (PPA) from the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
He has been irregular at the plenary or even at committee oversight functions in the last one year.
Rating: Below Average
Kalu Igu Uduma (PDP) Arochukwu/Ohafia
He is a first time member of the House of Representatives. He is an insurance professional and member of the House committee on Foreign Affairs. Battling distraction caused by the election petition Tribunal and Court of Appeal.
Rating: Below Average
Nnennaya Elendu-Ukeje (PDP) Bende
Brilliant and blunt, Elendu-Ukeje is daughter to retired Justice Roseline Ukeje, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. She is also seen as being very cerebral and her contributions to debates give more meaning to the subjects.
Rating: Above Average
Chineneye Ferdinand Ike (PDP) Isiala Ngwa North and South
A consummate politician, who contributes immensely to the business of lawmaking. In the committees where he belongs, his contributions are always sought after because of the mature way he intervenes.

Eziuche Chinwe Ubani (PDP)
This journalist of note is not a new person to the politics of the House. He was the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the former Speaker Ghali Umar Na'Abba, an appointment that exposed him to the business of the legislature.
Ubani is presently Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity. He shows maturity in his contributions but much more respected by the House Leadership as a good team player.

Stanley Ohajuruka (PPA) Umuahia North/South Ikwuano
Honourable Ohajuruka is the immediate past Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, who served two terms as a Speaker. Ohajuruka contributes brilliantly on the floor.

Emeka Stanley (PPA) Ukwa South /West
He is being bogged down by the number of electoral battles he's been facing since he came into the National Assembly. This lawmaker is always in his state trying to sort out the several suits in the Tribunal against him.
Rating: Below Average
Nkiru Onyejeocha (PDP) Isuikwuato/Ummuneochi
She sponsored the Senior Citizens Bill, Use of telephone while driving Bill, Anti Torture Bill, Witness Protection and the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation Act (repeal and Enactment) Bills now awaiting Second Reading by the House

Anthony Madwatte (PDP) Denmasa/Numan/Lamunle
He is of the PDP and contributes effectively to debates and committee work. He is a team player and strong member of the Integrity Group.
Rating: Average
Njidda Ngella (PDP) Maha/Mubi North/Mubi South
He is a cognate member of the House who contested for and lost the post of Deputy Speaker of the House to Bayero Nafada.
