Kabelano Charity Cup has always been a tournament where clubs parade new players ahead of the new season and this year was no exception.
Staff Writer Boitumelo Khutsafalo analyses the performances of the players who turned out for their new teams on Saturday
Terrence Mandaza (Township Rollers)
Mandaza needs no introduction in local football after a brilliant season at TASC. He was one of the candidates fighting for the Golden Boot, which was eventually won by Mochudi Centre Chiefs' Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Master Masitara of Nico United. Despite not being on the score sheet for his new team on Saturday, Mandaza had moments of brilliance.
He showed that he is not only a goal poacher but a player with unique skill. He tormented ECCO City Greens' defence for the entire game during the final and looks set to solve Rollers' goal scoring problems.
Jackie Mothatego (Notwane)
The former Uniao Flamengo Santos midfielder made a brilliant debut for his new team. Mothatego is one of the players that made the core of the historic national Under-23 team. But it was surprising last season when he was relegated to the sidelines at Santos.
He fitted in Notwane's midfield very well on Saturday and his combination with Dirang Moloi and Barnes Radipotsane proved a handful for Chiefs. He is likely to be one of the outstanding players in the coming season.
Moreetsi Mosimanyana (Notwane)
The defender's first game for Notwane proved that he is ready to fit in the Zebras' ageing defence. His acquisition is proof that Notwane mean business this time around.
The club is strategic in its recruitments and the fact that the management signed Mosimanyana from Police XI could be proof of intention to go all out for silverware in the Coca-Cola Cup and the coming season.
Despite committing a foul in the box, which eventually handed Chiefs a penalty and a goal, Mosimanyana had a brilliant debut. He was unlucky that a second half injury forced him out of the match.
