29 June 2008

Kampala — TORNADO talisman Joel Olweny was caught by Raymond Otim for only 15 runs, but, that did not stop his club getting a comprehensive 96 run victory over Tornado B yesterday.

Olweny went into the Mawanda Cup cricket final set to light up the batting after hitting a double ton in an earlier game.

Moses Otiti (2/34) stopped Olweny as together with Nandi Kishore (2/35) claimed Tornado's other openers Akbar Baig (2) and Emmanuel Nakaana (39).

But mid-order batsmen Nehal Bibodi (51) and Benjamin Musoke (69) saw Tornado set Tornado B a target of 275.

Tornado B looked to be on course with Francis Otieno (32), Lawrence Ssematimba (40) and Raymond Otim (31) putting a good chase until Baig struck.

Baig picked four of the last five wickets that included Jeremy Musoke (7), Emmy Kibirango (20), William Kibuukamusoke (2) and Allan Ssematimba (1), as Tornado B collapsed at 177 all out.

Bibodi (2/41) and Emmanuel Issanez (2/22) were the other outstanding bowlers, in a game, which saw umpire Patrick Makumbi save Otim's wicket amidst controversy circumstances.

Olweny had caught the would be last wicket of Tornado B but was deemed to have stepped on the line. Defeat came soon after.
