Nigeria: Flying Eagles Win

29 June 2008

Flying Eagles yesterday began the race to Rwanda 2009 on sound with 2-0 spanking of their Senegalese counterparts in Abeokuta.

The mostly comprising of members of the Golden Eaglets that took the world by storm when they won the FIFA U-17 Championship in South Korea secured victory through goals from Huseini Bolaji and Kabiru Akinsola. Both came from the bench to liven the game in the second half.

The first half had ended on barren note with the Eagles struggling to find their footing and not finding things easy. Spectators responded by booing the team but had something to cheer in the first minute of the second half following Rabiu Ibrahim's one two combination with Bolaji found the latter outpacing the Senegalese defence to open the score sheet.

Akinsola tucked in the second during a goalmouth melee and it proved to be the tonic the hosts needed to attack further but were unable to increase the tally.
