With qualification to the next group phase in sight, Fufa is leaving nothing to chance ahead of Uganda's last home match.
The Federation has decided to change tradition and move Cranes' last match against Benin to Sunday October 12. Normally, Uganda plays its matches on Saturday afternoons.
A source told Daily Monitor that the federation's executive body took the decision to avoid a repeat of last year's botched campaign when Uganda played and defeated Niger 3-1 on Saturday, a result that was keenly followed and consequently bettered by Zambia in South Africa.
The Cranes need maximum points from their remaining two matches to reach the next qualifying group for Angola and South Africa 2010.
Last year Laszlo Csaba demanded that the last group match against Niger be played on Sunday but his request fell on deaf ears. Uganda managed a good victory over the Mena but with Zambia playing the next Sunday in South Africa, the Chipolopolo enjoyed the advantage of knowing the precise scoreline needed to reach Ghana 2008.
Fufa is also planning a series of matches in West Africa ahead of Cranes' trip to Niger. Uganda has a reputation of being bad travellers but after holding mighty Angola 0-0 in Luanda, Cranes should not be short on belief. Uganda drew 0-0 with Niger in Niamey last year.
Maximum points
Fufa President Lawrence Mulindwa wants the national team to pick six points from the two matches to avoid another round of complex mathematics.
"We shall get rid of those complicated calculations if we win our matches. The new qualification procedures will apply to only teams that finish second in their groups. We must strive to finish top," said Mulindwa.
Uganda is seeking to qualify for a major tournament for the first time since 1978.
