Rwanda Independent Sport Press Network (RISPN) officially elected its executive committee on Thursday at Ikana centre, Kigali city.

The elected members who will form the executive committee include David Bayigana (Voice of Africa) who is the president of the network.

Henry Muhire (Radio Flash) was elected the vice president; Bonnie Mugabe (New Times) was elected the Secretary General while Christian Uwigenga (Contact Radio) is the Treasurer.

The elections were attended by several local sports journalists while Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa acted as an observer.

RISPN was formed by a group of local sports journalists last month with an emphasis of promoting sports in the country.

The founding members of the Association include David Bayigana, Gerald Manzi, Romario Gakuba, (Voice of Africa), Théo Barasa and Henry Muhire (Flash FM), Clever Kazungu and Christian Uwigenga, Régis Muramira (City radio) and Bonnie Mugabe.

RISPN is also aimed at improving working relations between journalists and their news sources, protection of news sources and the impact of technology on journalism ethics, fairness, privacy concerns and accuracy to mention among others.

The new sport body is the second sports association to be set up in Rwanda after the Rwanda Sports Journalists Association (RSJP) formed in early 2000 but is now inactive.
