The secretary to the local organising committee, Peninah Kabenge, yesterday said that though a number of countries are expected over the weekend, the teams from South Africa are set to jet in earlier. All athletes will reside at Makerere University.

"They will be the first to arrive in the country on July 3. They will be followed by Ghana on July 5," said Kabenge, adding that most countries are expected on the evening of July 5 and the next day.

"We are expecting over 20 countries for the games. It is good we are getting some corporate bodies to give us a hand."

The Inter University Council has been joined by Standard Chartered, dfcu, Nile Breweries and Hima Cement as some of the sponsors for the games, that will tussles in football, athletics, volleyball and netball among others.

Telecommunication company MTN is sponsoring Team Uganda to the games.
