Nigeria: Itsekiri Communities Lay Claim to Returned Ceded Oil Wells

FIVE Itsekiri communities in Warri North of Delta State, where over 260 oil wells were ceded illegally to Ondo State by former President Obasanjo administration yesterday stated that the land returned to the state government belong to all the six plaintiffs in the suit.
The Plaintiffs are Ugbege community as 1st plaintiff, Molume, Eketie, Ekekporo, Ebokiti and Ototo communities as 2nd set of plaintiffs in Suit No: FHC/B/CS/118/06 with the Hon. Attorney General of the Federation, the National Boundary Commission and the Attorney General of Ondo State as Defendants.
The second set of plaintiffs in a statement said that the Vanguard publication that the "lands returned to Delta State Government belong to Ugbege was intended to create a wrong impression" by Ugbege who they alleged "has been putting forward false claim to all lands in the area".
Messrs D.O. Anomuogharan (Molume); A.O. Omagbemi (Ebokiti); Henry Madamedon (Ekekporo); Richard Ugemuge (Eketie) and Perry Asifor (Ototo) battle to return these towns and villages to Delta State; was the combined efforts of the communities concerned, assisted by the entire Itsekiri nation, some notable bodies and some individuals.

Justice Chukwura Nnamani of the Federal High Court, Benin, Edo state had on June 10, while delivering judgment on the illegal ceding of these communities and the 260 oil well therein stated that consensus agreement reached between ex-Governor James Ibori of Delta State and his Ondo state counterpart without consulting the material people/institutions in violation of Section 8(2) of the 1999 constitution is null, void and of no effect whatsoever.
