Zimbabwe: Sables, Senegal Game Postponed

Lusaka, Zambia — ZIMBABWE'S game against Senegal in the World Cup and Africa Cup rugby qualifiers has been postponed. This follows a Confederation of African Rugby executive meeting in Madagascar.

The game will now be played after the match against Namibia on August 2 but no exact date has been set.

Senegal were originally scheduled to play the Sables on July 12 at Hartsfield in Bulawayo but the West Africans raised concerns about their security.

Zimbabwe Rugby Union president Bruce Hobson remained positive that the game would be played at Hartsfield.

"The Senegalese are just trying to push for a neutral venue and they know that Zimbabwe is safe as witnessed when other national teams in different sporting disciplines tour Zimbabwe.

"CAR confirmed with us that the game will now be played after the one against Namibia," said Hobson.

And Sables manager Losson Mtongiza yesterday said they would not succumb to the "mind games" Senegal are trying to play.

"I think as the team we have to stay focused ands we do not have to let the situation draw us back.

"The situation could work to our advantage because we are also getting more time to prepare for the game.

"But we just have to work hard and we are praying that like any other team we have our fair chance of home and away games," said the former ZRU vice president.
