Nigeria: Police Arrest Two-Man Gang in Bank Customers Robbery

Delta — MEN of the Delta state police command have arrested a two-man gang, who specializes in trailing customers to and from banks in Asaba with motorcycle, popular referred to as okada in Asaba.

There had been reported cases of bank customers being dispossessed of huge sums of money either when going or coming back from bank.

As a result of the arrest, many residents in the town trooped to the police station at 'A' Division Asaba yesterday afternoon to catch a glimpse of the suspects. The two suspects were caught in the act while trying to rob a bank customer.

State Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Charles Muka, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) confirmed the arrest, saying that "our strategy has yielded fruits. The two-man gang was arrested this afternoon (yesterday) while another three robbery suspects operating with Jetta car were nabbed on Tuesday.

"The command", he said, is making breakthrough but we need to be assisted with adequate and prompt information from members of the public".

Sometime last year, a bank customer who was accosted while emerging from a new generation bank located on Nnebisi road engaged a two-man robbery gang in a fight after a failed attempt by the robbers to shoot him down. When the suspected robbers discovered to their dismay that the bullets did not penetrate their target, they attempted to escape but the man pursued them and engaged them in a fight.
