Zimbabwe: Nengomasha Acquires SA Resident's Permit

Harare — ZIMBABWE international Tinashe Nengomasha has become the latest local player to acquire a South African resident's permit that will enable him to play in that country's league as a non-foreigner.

According to reports from South Africa yesterday, Nengomasha will be registered as a South African national for the 2008/2009 season.

SuperSport's web-edition said Kaizer Chiefs were keen to register the former Black Aces and Motor Action midfielder as a local player.

"This will enable Kaizer Chiefs to register an additional foreign player in terms of the PSL rule which allows local clubs to register five foreign players but are only allowed to play four at any given time," read part of the report by SuperSport.com.

Chiefs also have Warriors left back Onismor Bhasera as one of the foreign players in their ranks alongside Nengomasha.

The Soweto giants also have Ghanaian central defender Jonathan Quartely, Venezuelan striker Jose Torrealba but the side has broken ranks with Ugandan attacking wingback David Obua as well as Austrian goalkeeper Mark Bocsker.

By attaining a resident's permit, Nengomasha can now play in South Africa without requiring to get a work permit since he will be considered more like a naturalised South African.

According to the immigration rules in South Africa, a player can qualify to apply for a resident's permit if he has lived and played in South Africa consistently for over five years.

In getting the resident's permit, Nengomasha remains eligible to play for Zimbabwe as he still has his citizenship.

Zimbabwe does not permit dual citizenship.

Former Warriors skipper Peter Ndlovu, recently off-loaded at Mamelodi Sundowns, was playing as a local since he possesses a resident's permit.

Ndlovu qualified for the resident's permit due to the fact that he married a South African, singer Sharon Dee.

Former Zimbabwe internationals Adam Ndlovu, Edzai Kasinauyo, Endelbert Dinha, Innocent Chikoya, Charles Yohane and the Mugeyi twins William and Wilfred have secured residents' permits.

Kaitano Tembo, Tauya Murehwa and Elasto Lungu are also staying and working under the same permit in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Evans Gwekwerere has reportedly signed a two-year contract with South African Premiership aspirants FC AK although his manager Douglas Tanyanyiwa contradicted the player by saying no deal has been reached.

South African football magazine Kick-Off, yesterday reported that Gwekwerere is now at FC AK after being off-loaded by Moroka Swallows.

Kick-Off.com said they met with the former Moroka Swallows striker on his way out of the FC AK offices at Eastgate on Tuesday and he confirmed that he had "just concluded a deal with FC AK".

"I had already agreed to join Cosmos after training with them, but FC AK came up with a better offer and I could not turn it down.

"I would like to thank Leon Prins at Swallows who issued my clearance without a problem," the Zimbabwean international added.

But Tanyanyiwa insisted nothing had been concluded.

"Nothing has been concluded yet on Gwekwerere's movement.

"All that is there is speculation and I think whoever reported that the player has joined FC AK jumped the gun. Maybe Gwekwerere himself did rush because as far as we know he has a contract with us as Douglas Warriors which is due to expire next year.

"Until then any club that wants Gwekwerere's services has to negotiate with us.

"And for now we have not heard anything from FC AK or Jomo Cosmos or even Dynamos," said Tanyanyiwa.

Gwekwerere had been rumoured to be on his way back to CBZ Premiership champions Dynamos but it seems like he will be finding another base in South Africa.

FC AK are involved in the play-off for a place in the ABSA Premiership and are home to the former Warriors pair of Charles Yohane and Alois Bunjira.
