The Aus community in the South reached another milestone with the official opening of a water purification plant, built at a cost of between N$280 000 and N$300 000, on Friday.
Funded by Namdeb, Conserve Namibia and Aqua Service and Engineering, the plant will purify sewerage water which will be used for irrigation at the succulent plant nursery administered by the Aus Conservancy Community Trust (ACCT).
Aqua Service and Engineering constructed the plant, which was officially opened by the region's Acting Chief Control Warden, Johannes Heita, on behalf of Minister of Environment and Tourism, Netumbo Ndaitwa.
In her message, Ndaitwa urged the community of Aus to refrain from vandalism and to take ownership of the new plant.
The ACCT, which spearheaded the building of the new plant, plans to extend it in future to provide drinking water to the community of Aus.
