What people in the Diaspora did to singer Jose Chameleone, only God knows! The Afro-beat singer once again failed to show up for a concert in Amsterdam. He was expected to land at Schiphol Airport on Tuesday but fans waited in vain.
His Tour Manager, Humphrey Mayanja, afterwards sent a message apologising. He claimed Chameleone never received his flight tickets from the organisers.
But according to UTAKE, the organising company, it was "a big lie."
"Jose Chameleone and crew didn't take the flight and there is no reason for missing the flights. He didn't even contact [us] that he didn't board or anything like that," reads an e-mail from UTAKE.
D&N hears that after missing two flights with his manager and a third person, organisers managed to secure one business class seat with KLM for the newlywed, two hours to the show.
Mbu, when he arrived with his crew and found that only one person had been booked, he stormed out, arguing that if other tickets are not paid, he would not board!
Kazoora going, going, gone!
If you thought socialite emcee and radio presenter David Kazoora was joking about settling down, take this: the wedding meetings are on at Club Rouge every Wednesday at 5.30p.m. To all the ladies who had their fingers crossed that there would be a change of mind, you can uncross them now, and officially move on. The man is wedding long time heartthrob Patricia Kukundakwe on July 26!
Ferdinand tickled by Theatre Factory
If you were at National Theatre on Thursday for comedy night, then surely you must have seen the West Ham United defender, Anton Ferdinand. He arrived shortly after the show had kicked off at 8.30p.m. with a group of friends and settled in the front seats.
He looked like he was having one heck of a time, laughing and laughing again at the comedy on stage. How he made sense of the skits done in Luganda beats D&N because even then he was still laughing, and so were his friends. There was no much fussing about them in the name of bodyguards which helped the comedy go on normally. Anton stayed for over an hour, experiencing comedy the Ugandan way. We guess that is serious mileage for Philip Luswata and his crew!
Bebe turns political in London
Singer Bebe Cool used his moment of fame at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday in London's Hyde Park to lash out at leaders who don't relinquish power, like Robert Mugabe.
Bebe who was very vigorous on stage looked like the best entertainer of the evening with his rendition of Philly Bongoley Lutaaya's Born In Africa. Being in the same room with Amy Winehouse, Will Smith, Sir Elton John, Forest Whitaker, Queen, The Soweto Gospel Choir, Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Gordon Brown must surely be the highlight of the singer's career!
Afrigo for Warid deal?
The rivalry among telephone companies never ceases. If they are not fighting to bring international artistes to Uganda, then they are in for radio presenters to grace their billboards. Recently, MTN Uganda signed up Eagles Production, which sent a shock wave to its rivals. Eagles Production will not as long as its contract stands perform at any other telephone company's function, apart from MTN's. In a bid to measure up, D&N has learnt that Warid Telecom is in talks with Afrigo Band to have it signed up with them. According to a source in Warid, Afrigo's Moses Matovu was on Tuesday locked in a closed meeting with the top management. The final outcome is not known but will be communicated as soon as D&N gets it.
Sylvia, Eto'o showdown
It always sounds like malice when tabloids report that Sylvia Owori is as star-struck as they come. When we saw her lurking in Akon, P-Square and other international stars' shadows, we assumed it was natural; celebrity fashion designer attracting celebrity artiste to 'wear her label'. Well, we were made to eat our words.
When Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o came to Uganda last week, Unilever threw a party for the star at Club Silk. And Sylvia was there and we saw how she works her magic. Only that the dove refused to fly out of the hat this time!
She sent one of her aides Brenda Nanyonjo to ask emcee Mitch Egwang for a favour.
"Sylvia says she wants a ball too autographed by Eto'o. She also wants to take a picture with him," D&N overheard Nanyonjo repeating Owori's words to Mitch.
"It is impossible, it cannot happen. Tell her the situation is very complicated," Mitch shooed Nanyonjo away.
