Angola: Parliament Programmes Bills Dedicated to National Media Council

3 July 2008

Luanda — The Bills on the National Council of the Social Communication (media), and the Right to Air Political Programmes, Reply and Retort will be discussed next July 08, in a plenary session of the National Assembly (parliament), according to the session summoned this Thursday by its speaker, Roberto Victor de Almeida.

Both documents are part of the legislative package of the next electoral process, with the holding of the forthcoming legislative elections, September 05.

On Tuesday, at the end of a meeting between the government and the opposition UNITA party, in the light of the bilateral mechanism for consultations and concert, the information secretary of the ruling MPLA party, Norberto dos Santos "Kwata Kanawa" defended "the seeking of consensus" to overcome group's interests.

The Bilateral Mechanism was established in 2002 with the purpose of monitoring the implementation of political activities, under the Luena Memorandum of Understanding, signed on 04 April of that year, which made the application of the Lusaka's Peace Protocol favourable.

In the next session, the MPs will also discuss about the Bills of Ranks and Badges of the National Police, the resolution law that approves, for ratification, the 2005 International Sanitary Regulation and the Parliament's 2007 Budget Execution Report.
