Cameroon's Prime Minister, Head of Government, Ephraim Inoni will represent President Paul Biya in the Africa Business Forum 2008 that begins today in London, United Kingdom. The forum convened by the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) and Business Action for Africa (BAA), will be holding under the theme, "Accelerating Growth: Partnerships for Reaching the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Africa".

A release on the Africa Business Forum 2008, states that it will be an occasion for business and government leaders to jointly assess progress in promoting growth and development in Africa and take steps to meet emerging challenges. The forum will equally consider how African business is addressing the challenges of meeting the Millennium Development Goals and will contribute to the thinking behind the MDG "Call to Action" launched by the United Kingdom Prime Minister, Gordon Brown in 2006 and which will be one of the focus at the United Nations in September 2008. The Africa Business Forum 2008 is holding under the backdrop of the fact that despite strong growth in many African economies, the continent is still lagging far behind meeting the targets set with the international community to meet health, education and other development key indicators.

The Africa Business Forum 2008 following the release, will address three key issues. The first issue will be the G8 priorities. It will provide comment and a public statement by business on progress since Gleneagles and evaluate this against the key policy actions required by G8 and African governments to promote growth and development in the continent, including trade, investment and managing the environment. Secondly, there will be a high level panel on African perspectives on the MDG Call to Action - to engage African business leaders directly in responding to MDG Call to Action, and create a dialogue between African business leaders and G8 governments and private sector leaders around this. The third issue will be practical actions. The forum will update and draw lessons on the practical business actions and programmes, which are contributing to improving job creation, enterprise, trade, investment and good governance across the continent. Focus will therefore, be on the Investment Climate Facility, Business Action for Improved Customs Administration, Business Action Against Corruption and other initiatives. Finally, the results of the forum will be communicated to the G8 and the MDG Call to Action programme.
