Nigeria: Jigawa Spends N270 Million On Speaker, Deputy's Quarters

JIGAWA State Government has awarded contract worth N270 million for the construction and decoration of the official quarters of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly and his Deputy.
Speaking shortly after the bi-weekly state executive council meeting, the commissioner for information, Alhaji Mukhtari Muhammad Birniwa, said the contract was awarded to Rana Tahir Furniture company and would be completed within the next 24 weeks.
The contract was provided for in the state's 2008 budget.The commissioner however, did not elaborate further on the contract specifications.Meanwhile, the state Government has set aside over N25million for the repair of 140 primary and post primary schools damaged by windstorm across the state over the last two months.
Government had last week set up a committee under the chairmanship of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmad Mahmud, to ascertain the level of damage done to the affected schools.
The Government has also earmarked about N28million for the payment of examination fees of its registered students at Informatics school

Under the arrangement about 286 students are expected to benefit, said the commissioner pointing out that the money would be disbursed through the state Scholarship Board for onward payment to the Informatics authority.
