Three CCM legislators yesterday expressed their deep concern over the growing problem of corruption in the country, calling for thorough investigations against those involved.

The said graft has become deeply imbedded in both the ruling party and its Government calling for full investigations because the war against graft is a key agenda in the CCM election manifesto.

The MPs made their stand when debating the 2008/09 Ministry of Infrastructure Development budget tabled in the House on Wednesday by minister Dr Shukuru Kawambwa.

Mbozi East (CCM) Gofrey Zambi fired the first salvo when he called on CCM members to fight the vice with all vigour because billions of shillings in public funds are stolen by a few greedy officials.

The legislator explained that legal measures should be instituted against all officials implicated in corruption allegations.

He said the public is surprised when they see individuals becoming super rich overnight after being appointed to senior posts in the Government.

Kasulu West MP (CCM) Kilontsi Mporogomyi echoed Mr Zambi's sentiments, saying CCM and its Government must be clean and that party members should not shy from speaking the truth against corrupt officials.

"If we want to cleanse the party and Government we should take stern legal measures against all corrupt individuals because such people tarnish the good image of CCM," he noted.

He said CCM members involved in corruption deals were not wishing well the party or Government.

Some CCM legislators have strongly condemned graft since the start of 12th Parliament session. They include Same East MP Anne Kilango Malecela, Nzega MP Lucas Selelii and Kyela MP Dr Harisson Mwakyembe.

Meanwhile, a heated debate ensued in the House yesterday with many MPs blasting the Government for its failure to implement road projects in the country.

The MPs said despite pledges made by President Jakaya Kikwete during the 2005 general elections on this aspect, implementation has been very slow.

MPs from western, central and lake zones have bitterly complained over poor central line railway services provided by the new TRL investor- Rites from India.
