A Kano-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Humanitarian Services Organization has donated assorted grains and household items worth about N2.5 million to widows and orphans in Kano State with over 800 beneficiaries recorded.

The items comprising 30 bags of rice, 20 bags of beans and 15 bags of millet and other items were given with a view to cushioning the effect of hardship ravaging most families globally, just as the NGO marked a special day for widows and orphans in the state.

Speaking at the occasion, Chairman of the Elders Forum of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Alhaji Ammani Inuwa, commended the Humanitarian Services Organization for its effort to alleviate the suffering of the needy, comprising both Muslims and Christians in the state by providing for them in their time of need.

He expressed the importance of such NGOs to the country, especially in a state like Kano where its activities is in line with the human development effort of Governor Ibrahim Shekarau administration.

The ANPP chieftain who was also the father of the day at the occasion, solicited the support of all and sundry for the organisation to enable it carry out its lofty ideas.

Also speaking, the Royal Father of the day, Alhaji Ado Bayero, represented by the District Head of Fagge, Alhaji Mahmud Ado Bayero, surmised his position on a philosophical note that the most important thing in life is that possession which someone still had to give to others in order to uplift their lives.

According to him, this postulation is contained in both the Holy Qu'ran and the Holy Bible, therefore, enjoined beneficiaries to appreciate whatever they received no matter how small so that they can attract God's blessings.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Osita Nwankwo, on his part, explained that widows and orphans need encouragement hence the need to provide for them.

"If you look at the widows, when some of us see what they pass through, we would appreciate that they need to be encouraged to be part of society; and not to be traumatised", he pleaded.

Chief Ugo Pascal Nwosu, Chairman of Igbo Community Association (ICA) Caretaker Committee, Kano State lamented the terrible state of widows as well as orphans some of whom he revealed cannot be enrolled in schools due to the poverty level.
