Bauchi

The Katagum Local Government Council of Bauchi State said it spent more than N2 billion on water and other rural development projects in the last two months.

Alhaji Abdu Chinade, the Chairman of the council, said this while addressing newsmen yesterday in Azare in BauchiState.

He explained that the amount was spent on water, environment and school rehabilitation projects.

Chinade said the projects included the construction of roads, drains and erosion control in Azare to check the perennial flooding in the area.

He said boreholes were constructed in many communities as part of measures to enhance access to safe drinking water, while more than 50 primary schools were rehabilitated.

On fertiliser distribution, the chairman said the state government had allocated 12,000 bags for distribution to farmers in the area this farming season.

Chinade noted that the council had raised committees in 20 wards to ensure adequate distribution of the commodity.

He, however, said "the quantity of fertiliser allocated to us is grossly inadequate" and appealed to the state government for more. (NAN)
