Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Professor Daniel Vershima Uza, has advocated for the setting up of a National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), for farmers access to boost food production in the country.

Uza, who advanced this course of action in Makurdi, while briefing newsmen at the University Senate Chambers further suggested that such fund is established, to avail farmers the opportunity to access soft credits for commercial farming.

Reacting to the question on whether government should continue to import food to offset the effect of food crisis in the country, the Vice Chancellor advised the government to look internally to solve digit interest rate, adding that subsidy should be placed on farming inputs such as fertilizer, tractors, agro-chemicals, feeds and so on as it is done erstwhile in the world.

The University Don, who hinted that his institution is in partnership with the Benue State government to boost the state agricultural sector, further restated the capability of the university, saying the mandate given to it to revive the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC), the state owned company, will soon be a reality.

Commenting on the university's plan to boost its internal generated revenue for further projects, Uza said as a new policy, the university management have directed all colleges to strengthen their self serving ventures based on their field of specialisation.
