The Ebonyi House of Assembly has passed a resolution empowering the executive arm to put measures in place to contain the Ezzilo communal crisis.

The crisis which erupted last May between the Ezzilo people and Ezza migrants over land ownership has claimed eight lives. The House Chairman on Special Duties, Mr Eni Chima, told newsmen yesterday in Abakaliki that the resolution was timely.

"'The resolution empowers the executive to use all apparatus available to it to check the disturbances in Ezzilo in Ishielu Local Government Area," he said.

Chima said the House was satisfied with the response of the executive to resolve the crisis which he said, was an embarrassment to the state.

"The prompt deployment of security operatives in the area and the arrest and prosecution of the suspects show the readiness of government to forestall such occurrences," he noted.
