Angola: Govt Defends New Cooperation in Oil Sector

4 July 2008

Madrid — Angola defended on Wednesday at the 19th World Petroleum Congress, a method of cooperation and partnership in which national firms have a greater performance in terms of decision and implementation of hydrocarbon exploration and production projects.

This stand was expressed in Madrid, Spain, the by administrator of Sonangol, state-run oil firm in charge of hydrocarbon exploration and production, whilst speaking about the "Goals of Oil and Natural Gas Industry".

National companies currently dominate their respective reserves and the processes of prospecting, exploration, production and has access to financing capital to implement the projects, stated the Sonangol chief, Syanga Abílio.

He added that due to this situation, "nothing justifies being under the aegis of foreign companies operating in the country, as it normally happens, imposing their rules".

Syanga Abílio also said that Angola defends a method of relationship in which national companies have a more active role in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons and an operation that safeguards the interests of the respective countries and of foreign operating firms.
