The College of the Arts (COTA) will present its annual ballet production Ballet 2008 from July 10-12 at the National Theatre. Doors open at 18h30 and the shows start at 19h30. A matinee is scheduled for next Saturday at 14h00.

Directed by Heather Kittel a ballet lecturer at the college, Ballet 2008 will be based on four tales, namely: Coppelia, Partroushka, Giselle and Don Quixote. More than a hundred students will participate in this production with solo performances by:

Zaandre Du Toit: Former ballet student at COTA where she obtained her Advanced 2 RAD ballet qualification, was awarded the prize of most outstanding student for three consecutive years. She is currently studying Dance at the University of Cape Town.

Mlindi Kulashe: Has been training under Dianne Cheesman at the University of Cape Town Junior Ballet School for the past seven years. Mlindi obtained a distinction for all his RAD ballet examinations. He was accepted into the Cape Junior Ballet Company in 2005 and had the opportunity to travel with the company to Germany in 2006.

Steven van Wyk: Is currently a Dance Student at UCT where he has obtained his Advance 1 Ballet qualification. He trained previously at the Water Front Theatre School in Cape Town where he obtained a Performer Diploma in Musical Theatre.

Meandra Jordaan: Obtained her Advanced 1 Classical Ballet qualification at COTA. She is a 5th year medical student at the University of Stellebosch and studying ballet under Colleen Williams at the same university.

These three extremely talented young dancers are all Advanced Level 1 Ballet students at COTA. Both Jana and Abigail performed as soloists in the COTA production The Sleeping Beauty in 2007 and where awarded with the prize for the most outstanding Ballet students in during the same year.
