A nine-year-old failed kidney patient is yet to raise N10 million for treatment at a hospital in India since his admission at the National Hospital on February 15, 2008.
The boy, Moses Itodo, is an orphan that lost his parents in bizarre circumstances and has nobody to look after him.
Our reporters learnt that Capital F.M., a radio station in Abuja has already given out N1.6 million to the authority of National Hospital to process the travelling arrangements for the boy in India.
The money given out to the hospital authority were donated by listeners of a popularly programme in the station (named 'Lean on me), who gave out over N1.8 million.
Pupils from schools in the FCT were at the radio station to donate money, while the presenter kept appealing to corporate organisations and wealthy private individuals to come to the aid of the boy who is presently going through his treatment in pains.
At the National Hospital yesterday, our reporter learnt that the boy has end stage renal disease which means his kidneys are failing.
A staff of the hospital said the boy Moses Itodo is dialysis dependent and needs immediate surgery and has been in National Hospital since February 15, 2008, when he was transferred from University of Abuja Teaching hospital, Gwagwalada.
Our reporter was told that the doctor handling his case had travelled but the Assistant Director of Information Services at National Hospital; Mallam Yahaya O. Sadiq said some of the money for Moses treatment has been raised.
"However there is still a lot of money that is needed for his surgery that should have taken place in February," the spokesperson said.
City News learnt that little Moses undergoes dialysis three times a week and it lasts for most of the day.
The Abuja National Hospital is still waiting on Philanthropic individuals and organizations to help reach the estimated target and have appealed that any monetary donations should be taken to Intercontinental Bank and be deposited in Friends of National Hospital (account number, 0136001000004859). Other material donations are accepted at the In-Patient Paediatric (IPP) ward of the hospital.
