The maiden Isa Abu Idris Cup soccer competition for Under-13 boys, scheduled to kick-off today in Lokoja has been postponed indefinitely.

The competition, being sponsored by the Kogi government, is in memory of the late secretary of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Isa Idris.

YSFON Secretary, Patrick Okpavuerhe, said in Lagos that the one week competition was shifted because of "some logistic reasons."

"The competition was postponed indefinitely to allow the Kogi State YSFON and the Kogi government to prepare well for the hosting.

"We don't want a shoddy tournament since we are honouring our former secretary who died on July 7, 2005 with it," Okpavuerhe said.

He disclosed that the trophy was donated by Holmlia Sports Club, Oslo, Norway "for Isa's efforts to see that many football clubs in Nigeria featured yearly the in Norway Cup".

Okpavuehe said that YSFON state chapters would be informed of a new date for the competition as soon as possible.
