Salone Prepares for Olympic Game — Since it was confirmed that Sierra Leone is eligible to send a delegation to the Olympic Games in China despite the fact that the country did not have any qualifying athletes, preparation is ongoing to send a delegation.

Speaking to Concord Sports, the public relations officer of the ministry of education, youth and sports, Unisa Deen Kargbo (UDK), Sierra Leone will send one female and one male athlete to the forthcoming Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing.

"According to the Olympic rules, if a country has no qualified athletes, they are eligible to take their best male and female athletes," Kargbo said and however added that not only the two athletes would be in China to represent Sierra Leone.

Justifying why the delegation from Sierra Leone would constitute more than the athletes, UDK explained that every Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will hold a congress for all National Olympic Committee (NOC) members and six members from Sierra Leone are entitled to participate.

He added that every athlete taken to the Games must have a coach and a medical doctor.
