Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Dimeji Bankole, has said that the House will continue to support the Federal Government through the enactment of relevant laws that would guarantee enduring peace, security and development in Niger Delta.

Bankole who met with the National Working Committee of the Petroleum and National Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN in his office, said the problem in the Niger Delta has assumed global dimension, adding that every stakeholder in Nigeria must join hands in finding lasting solution to it.

"The issue of Niger Delta is no longer a South-South issue. It is not only a Nigerian issue but a global issue. It has also attracted the attention of all and sundry and we must collectively work to find solution to it,"he stated.

Bankole said that the Niger-Delta issue would continue to be at the front burner of the House's legislative agenda.

On the local content bill currently before the House, the Speaker said members were taking a critical look at the bill and that consultations were on with relevant stakeholders with a view to having a law that could meet the test of time.

While counting on the support and input of PENGASSAN on the local content bill, Hon. Bankole assured that the oil sector reform would get the full backing of the legislature.

The President of PENGASSAN, Comrade Babatunde Ogun urged the House to carry along members of his association while considering the local content bill before the House.

He said the union are major stakeholders as far as oil reforms and local content bill are concerned and must be consulted in the process of finding lasting solutions to them.

He commended the current investigations going on in the National Assembly, urging that the House should make their finds public as soon as possible.
