Monrovia — As global prices continue to increase, Vice President Joseph N. Boakai is encouraging Liberians to engage in private initiatives for the good of the country.
He said "we want our people to explore the unlimited opportunities that are available in this country to their own benefits; the era we face is an era of global challenges."
Ambassador Boakai spoke at the opening of Wahdwahim Clinic and Help the Aged live a Fruitful Life home on Barnesville Road.
He said, the rising food and oil prices, the growing HIV/AIDS pandemic, rising crime rate are issues that are not only peculiar to Liberia.
He said while the rest of the world is battling with these problems and collectively working towards finding solutions, some Liberians were sitting supinely with the hope that the rest of the world would abandon their problems and solve Liberia's own.
Ambassador Boakai urged Liberians to make use of their talents, energies and financial might to rebuild the country.
He said it was time for Liberians to wake up from their slumbers and redefine themselves for challenges ahead.
The Vice President commended the founders of the clinic and old folk's home for engaging in such a worthy venture for the good of Liberians.
He said although the government was doing all in its power to address some of the priority areas like health, education, road rehabilitation, economic revitalization, security sector reform and consolidating the peace through its poverty reduction strategy, it is equally important that every Liberian shows his or her patriotism by engaging in activities that would support government effort.
Ambassador Boakai then pledged his unflinching support to the operation of the clinic and old folks home.
Earlier, one of the founders, Rev. Sodey Lake said a group of women decided to establish the clinic and the Old Folks Home as a way of giving back to their community and country.
