Caála — Electoral agents in Caála District, in the central Huambo Province, are refreshing their knowledge in electoral civic education since last Thursday, which will be used to sensitise the population to vote in the parliamentary elections set for September this year.
This training programme, promoted by the National Electoral Commission (CNE), aims at increasing the levels of knowledge on the importance of the elections, as well as raise people's awareness in voting.
According to Caála District's Electoral Office co-ordinator, Bernardo Cativa, who spoke in the opening session of the training, the electoral agents serve as connectors with the population, in order for them to diffuse programmes of civic education.
"The respect for difference, freedom of choice, assembly and manifestation, among other principles, must be considered relevant for the success of the next polls", he stressed.
For five days, the participants will discuss, among others, themes like general principles on electoral civic education, rights and duties, ballot papers, campaign phase, valuing democracy, tolerance and acceptance of difference.
The legislative elections in Angola will be held on 05 September this year, and just over eight million voters are registered to vote.
