Nigerians hoping to watch the popular Big Brother Africa programme may have to forget it as the House of Representatives yesterday reiterated its earlier call for the banning of the broadcast of the programme by Multi Choice in Nigeria due to what the lawmakers described as indecent and obscene show of nudity during the BBA 2.

Chairman of the House Committee on Information and National Orientation, Honourable Dino Melaye , said yesterday while addressing the management of the MultiChoice and the Broadcasting Commission of Nigeria in Abuja that the negative consequence of BBA cannot be over emphasised.

Managing Director, Multichoice Nigeria, Mr Collins Khumalo, however said he has been able to prevail on M.Net to make sure that they do not show nudity in BBA 3.

"If it is shown this year, we will deal with them accordingly. M.Net has admitted that what was shown last year violated their own internal rule," said Khumalo.

He said that after the incident of last year, MultiChoice management had to prevail on M.Net to exercise discretion on the content they send to Multichoice for transmission.

Khumalo disclosed that a letter was sent to M.Net on the matter involving Nigeria's inmate in BBA 2, Ofunneka Moloku and Richard Dyle Bezuidenhout of Malawi and with a reply that such a thing would not be repeated again.

He said Multi Choice in no way interferes in content of what they air as the company tries to shift editorial independent to all the station.

Khumalo explained further that Nigeria accounted for the third highest voters and second highest number of viewers as well as second highest number of text messages received on the reality show.

Melaye however said Nigeria and Africa are under the threat of HIV/AIDS therefore promoting wide spread pornography under whatever guise is counter-productive.
