Members of the Sekyere East District Association of Small Scale Industries (SEDASSI), drawn from Effiduase and Asokore in Ashanti Region, have attended a four-day workshop, organized by the Business Sector Advocacy Challenge Fund (BUSAC).
The workshop was intended to enhance the knowledge and skills of member hairdressers, dressmakers, shoemakers, carpenters, as well as fridge and car mechanics, and to promote private sector participation in policy formulation, and a review for a better business environment.
The participants, numbering 28, were schooled on effective advocacy information gathering, writing of proposals, follow up and monitoring, and prompt payment of taxes.
A resource person, Mr. Louis Acheampong, disclosed that BUSAC had organized similar workshops for over 300 industries, including the TUC, MUSIGAH and GJA over the past four years.
Rt. Rev. Samuel Agyeman Kwakye, Bishop of the Effiduase Diocese of the Methodist Church, noted that small-scale businesses contributed a lot to the growth of the economy, and urged participants to adopt measures, that would help improve the fortunes of the businesses.
He also advised the participants, to cultivate the habit of saving, so as to expand their businesses from of their own resources.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Association of Small Scale Industries (ASSI) challenged the participants to make good use of the skills and knowledge impacted to them.
Mr. Kwame Adu, Chairman of the Finance and Administration Sub-committee of the Sekyere East District Assembly co-ordinated the programme.
