Nasarawa — The Nasarawa State committee inaugurated to investigate the cause of the recent fire incident that engulfed Lafia and Doma market has advocated insurance cover for fire fighters of the state fire service.

Presenting the committee's report at government house Lafia, the chairman of the committee, Alhaji Jafaru Ango, said that there is an urgent need for insurance cover for officers of the fire service in the state for more efficient service.

The committee also called for the establishment of more fire service stations at the three senatorial districts of the state to further strengthen the base of the fire service men in the state.

Jafaru said that properties worth N14million were lost at the Lafia market and N9 million in Doma market, adding that N23 million will be required to reconstruct the Lafia market while N2 million will be needed to rehabilitate the Doma market.

According to the chairman of the committee, the remote cause of the fire incidence in Doma market has been traced to electrical appliances, that were left on as well as illegal connection.

Jafaru Ango also disclosed that the N7 million government relief fund was shared based on the understanding of the marketers while thanking the state government for giving them the opportunity to serve.

Responding to the committee's report, the state governor, Aliyu Akwe Doma, says that the state government will establish modern market at Doma and Akwanga local government areas of the state.

He added that government has made plans to put in place a market development board that will harmonise market activities in the state while thanking the committee for a job well done.
