Abuja

The minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, has again called on all Nigerians to be of good behaviour and desist from activities that are capable of bringing disrepute to the country and also cost them their lives.

The minister made the appeal yesterday in Abuja , during his interaction with the media.

He said that Nigerians, especially those who travel abroad, should try to desist from nefarious activities, which consequences are most often death penalty in many countries, particularly countries in Asia .

Recalling the execution of two Nigerians who were convicted of drug smuggling in Indonesia recently despite the passionate appeal from the Nigerian government, he then warned Nigerians of the grave consequences of engaging in such behaviour.

The minister then noted that the government has begun a process of addressing this unfortunate incident that is giving the country negative image.

He said that a high-powered inter-agency Committee on Illegal Migration, which mandate, among other things, would be to raise national awareness about the dangers and perils of illegal migration and other transnational crimes such as human trafficking and money laundering was already in place.

Similarly, a ministerial committee to examine the plight of Nigerians abroad, in the light of the unprovoked attacks and unfair treatment being meted out on them and to proffer appropriate recommendations was equally in place and working.
