Kigali — Parliament has approved the bill for issuing new electronic driving permits.
The legal officer in the department of transport in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Dominique Rurangirwa, told Sunday Times on Wednesday that the bill is now in different ministries for endorsement.
"Within a period of three weeks [the bill] will be ready for publication," he said. The bill states that these new driving permits will be valid for the period of five years and renewable under certain conditions determined by the minister holding transport in his ambit.
It also unveils that provisional driving license will be renewable every three months. The cost of a new driving permit will be Frw50,000 and a provisional driving license will be Frw10,000.
Rurangirwa said the new driving permits will be hard to forge and will also be durable compared to those currently in use."They will be resistant to weather conditions such as rains in case of motorcyclists," he said.
