Kampala — Mulago Hospital staff have been tested for diabetes and related illnesses. The tests, carried out from May 28 to June 11, were to check for hypertension, obesity and cardiovascular diseases.
The hospital's endocrine unit and Medisell Uganda, the agents for Roche Diabetes, a UK-based health organisation, carried out the free tests.
"Those found with complications are to be put on treatment to avert sudden deaths among staff," said Eliphaz Ssekabira, the Mulago spokesman, adding that they have about 2,300 staff members.
The results are due for release. The team carrying out the tests moved from office to office, said a circular signed by the executive director, Dr. Edward Ddumba.
