Nigeria: Bank Manager, PDP Chairman Appear Before Commission of Inquiry

Bauchi — A former Regional Manager of Intercity Bank,Alhaji Ahmed Umar, and the immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Baba Tela, have recently appeared before Justice Bitrus Sanga, a commission of inquiry set up by the present administration in the state to investigate the activities of some ministries and parastatals from 2002-2008.

The former Intercity Bank manager, now regional manager in Unity Bank confirmed that his two companies, Green Oil Nigeria Limited and Falalo Investment Nigeria Limited executed contracts worth over N600 million from the Department of Local Government.

Umar explained to the commission that himself and two of his wives are the directors of the Falalo Investment Company while his eldest son, his wife, daughter and one of his son's are the directors of the Green Oil Company.

He said his companies received the said payment from the Department of Local Government which was executed by his General Manager and classmate, Abubakar Kuso, who was engaged verbally on the agreement that they would share the profit on 50/50.

He told the commission that he lost contact with Kuso when investigation into the Department of Local Government started sometimes last year.

He said all the relevant papers regarding the execution of the contract is with Kuso who is no where to be found, adding that the lawyer of the two companies, Mahmud Sanda is dead.

On his own part, the former PDP chairman, Bauchi Local Government and the proprietor of Tallafi Nigeria Limited, after explaining that all the said contracts paid through his account where duly executed in the first day of his appearance, hurriedly changed his mind when he was reminded that the commission has the right to compel him to mention such persons and how the contract was executed.

On the third day of his appearance, Alhaji Baba Tela told the commission that he will say the truth of the matter, where he revealed that all the contracts worth N160 million was paid to his account on jobs not sure of their execution.
