Abuja — The Lutheran Church of Nigeria, Abuja district has concluded her three-day district wide convention tagged "Soaring High like an Eagle" with three of her members being installed elders.
The district comprising Lutheran churches across the Federal Capital Territory and part of Nasarawa State had her members converge at the kado-Kuchi branch of the church convention which held between June 27 - 29, 2008.
The de istrict superintendent, Reverend Thomas, N. Gbarato, exhorted the participants to acquaint themselves with the spiritual rules for the heavenly race. He quoted the scripture that says "the heavenly race is not always for the swift and strong but that time and chance happen to them all".
Also addressing the congregation, the Guest Speaker, Rev. Atteh, E. Ettoh, urged the brethren to wait patiently for God's time in their life and avoid the mad rush to acquire wealth and money through dubious and ungodly means.
Rev Etoh, who drew his text from Habakkuk 2 verses 2 &3, said it is only when things are done at God's time and leading will one enjoy such blessings.
He admonished all Christians to live in peace and harmony with all their neighbours as it is only peace that can enhance progress. He therefore, urged the congregation to wait patiently on God as no obstacle, difficulty or panic can stop what He has ordained to take place. e grand finale of the convention featured majorly the installation of preacher Abuo Francis Ojie, preacher S.U Udosen and Bro. Willy Mbagwu as elders by the Most Reverend E.E Ekanem, the president of the Lutheran Church in Nigeria
Most Reverend Ekanem in his message titled 'Dying to Corruption and Resurrecting Unto New Life in Christ" charged the church, especially the newly installed elders to show forth to the world the exemplary life of Jesus Christ which he described as life spotless of sin and worthy of emulation.
He further charged the installed elders to work in harmony with their pastor in overseeing the church of God and advancing the gospel in the spirit of humility and submission to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The members, Most Reverend Ekanem advised them to obey the elders and pay heed to their instructions as they are praying for them, ng on behalf of the installed elders, Elder Abuo Francis Ojie, promised that they would work for the promotion of the gospel and cater for the members in the fear of God while soliciting their support and prayers saying "No one can do God's work without God's power".
The convention featured expository teachings, discussions, bible studies/workshops, prayers and songs services, among other events, all were geared towards building the members up and moving the church forward.
