Abuja — Nasarawa State government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with an indigenous company for the construction of 500 units of houses is for workers in the state.
Signing the contract last week in Lafia, the Commissioner for Lands, Alhaji Kabiru Abubakar, said that the houses are to be built under a public private partnership (PPP) with Chipps Nigeria Limited believed to be owned by former Senate President, Ayim Pius Ayim.
According to the commissioner, the state government will provide infrastructures worth about N938 million which includes roads , water and electricity while Chipps Nig Ltd is expected to build the houses and hand over to workers.
He explained that the workers are expected to pay over a period of twenty five years before assuming ownership of the property which is to be built along Doma Road in Lafia the state capital.
He added that the 500 units of houses consist of 300 and 200 bedroom flats which would be sold at the rates of N4 million and N2.9 million respectively to workers adding that government is determined to see the completion of the projects.
In his remarks, the Managing Director, Chipps Nigeria Limited , Mr. Peter Obgu, said that the company would use its resources to build the houses adding that the company is out to assist Nasarawa State government achieve its goals.
Mr Ogbu added that the company is carrying out the project in line with the Millennium Development Goals at ensuring affordable houses for all before 2020.
