Luanda — The country's ongoing rehabilitation works of roads and the end of rain season have enabled the expansion of the second phase of national campaign of vaccination against poliomyelitis, held on 20-22 June, ANGOP has learnt.
According to the head of Broad Vaccination Programme (PAV), Alda Morais, the result of the expansion of the campaign, reaching as far as the remotest zones, was evident in the number of children vaccinated, standing at 6.3 million contrary to 6.0 million attained during the first phase, held on 18-20 May.
Involved in campaign were also national companies like Unitel, Movicel, religious entities and partisan leaders, Odebrecht, World Vision and the traditional partners of the Health Ministry, all of them contributed to the success of the campaign.
Some 20 cases of polio were recorded in the country during the first half of 2008, being the last one reported in Porto Amboím district, coastal Kwanza Sul province.
The third phase of the national vaccination campaign will take place on 20-22 July.
Alda Morais called for the engagement of all, similarly to what happened in the second phase, with view to stem the disease across the country.
