Angola: Minister Highlights Women Contribution to Country's Development

Luanda — The Angolan Family and Women Promotion minister, Cândida Celeste da Silva, Monday here praised the Methodist Church's contribution, mainly, that of Zion Anglican Episcopal, during a meeting held with ladies' society of that religious congregation.

The meeting is a part of the programme of visits planned by the Family and Women Promotion Ministry (MINFAMU), with different societies of ladies from churches recognised by the Angolan Government, with view to learn on their functioning and organisational level.

The event also served, among others, to transmit government viewpoint on women participation in different processes of the country's reconstruction and development.

Speaking to the event, the minister highlighted the role played by the faithful of the referred church in struggle for independence, freedom and the well-being of all Angolan citizens, mainly in issues related to preaching, academic, civic and moral education of the citizens.

She also urged them to keep on developing actions focussed on respecting and preservation of public properties, as a way to recognise the efforts exerted by the Angolan government in search of improved basic social conditions for the population.

On disarmament of population, underway countrywide, Cândida Celeste also called on the church to mobilize its faithful for conveying the message.

"The consolidation of peace in the country requires pacification of spirits, because there cannot be peace if the country continues recording violent scenes with hatred", said the Cabinet minister adding that "it is necessary that peace starts in our household".

MINFUMU's incumbent also called for massive participation of women in next September legislative elections.

The meeting gathered women representatives from 27 congregations belonging to the African Zion Episcopal Methodist Church and officials of Family Ministry.

Minister Candida Celeste also visited Quimbangista and Tocoista churches with the same purpose.
