Cameroonian popular musician, Pierre Roger Lambo Sandjo aka Lapiro de Mbanga, is reportedly sick at the Nkongsamba principal prison.
The artist was detained on April 9 at the Banga prison on claims that he instigated youths during the February nationwide strike action in Banga. He was recently transferred to the Nkongsamba principal prison for trial.
The artist's health has deteriorated after he was transferred from the Mbanga Principal Prison to Nkongsamba for trial, according to Lapiro's wife, Louisette. She said Lapiro has developed chronic back pains, cough and catarrh, and he has not been given medical attention. She decried the poor quality of food served prisoners and sanitary conditions of the prison.
Louisette said that government is illegally detaining her husband since, according to her; Lapiro is not guilty of the accusations levied against him. She disclosed that since her husband was detained, life has become unbearable for her.
she said she has lost all her business capital, shuttling from one prison to another to see her husband. The woman said her children are helpless in the absence of their father.The musician's wife was of the opinion that the delay to get her husband tried is a ploy to kill him.
She said other prisoners sentenced as a result of the strike have all been released, while Lapiro is yet to appear in court.Gendarme officers accused Lapiro of mobilizing rioters who burned private and public property in the town.
But Lapiro told The Post in prison on April 15 that he was a prisoner without a crime. He argued that, he instead saved Government High School Mbanga, Total Filling Station and the town hall from the hands of rioters.

Lapiro apparently became a target when he released an album condemning the controversial amendment of the 1996 Constitution. He is expected to appear at the Nkongsamba High Court on July 9.
