MOST flood victims in Magoye constituency in Mazabuka have returned to flood-prone areas despite advice to move to the upper land.

Magoye Member of Parliament, Bennie Mweemba said in an interview yesterday that the victims in his constituency had gone back to their villages that were washed away by heavy rain early this year.

He said the chief in the area had identified the flood victims and advised them to move to upper Magoye, but most of them chose to get back to their original areas.

Mr Mweemba, however, said some of the victims had shifted to the upper land although they were facing problems to build new homes because they need cement for the exercise.

He said he would ask the Government to help the people with loans to enable them buy cement since they are ready to offer labour for the construction of their houses.

Mr Mweemba said it was still dangerous for those that had gone back to the flood-prone areas because they would still be displaced when rain starts in the next three months.

"To avoid problems, people should permanently move to the higher land than complaining to the Government when they are hit by floods," he said.
